Grown in the Sandy Soil of the Southwest

Portales is an agricultural community on the high plains of the Llano Estacado (Staked Plains), a small quiet town pop. 12,500 on the Eastern side of New Mexico just 18 miles from the Texas border. Roosevelt County is called “The Peanut Capital of the World” and the Portales Valley is one of the largest producers of Valencia Peanuts west of the Mississippi.

The little golden beauties, sold mostly in the shell are an economic mainstay of the High Plains. This area is perfectly suited for growing Valencia peanuts. Our dry climate, sandy soil and elevation of more than 4,000 feet give us an advantage of low humidity and low night temperatures, which result in fewer plant diseases.

Even though New Mexico grows only about 1% of all the peanuts in the nation, it fills a niche market by growing 90% of all the Valencia’s!
Known world-wide for their unique flavor, they are smaller and sweeter than their Virginia style counterparts. Valencia peanuts have quite a fan base among candy makers and Peanut Boilers due to the unique flavor. Proving that sometimes the best things do come in smaller packages!

Try them and you will be back for more!
